About Joolz

Hello , I'm Joolz, I make, paint and stitch on the island of Anglesey. I paint all my illustrations and artwork by hand.

A designer of unique curiosities, I make layered paintings, handmade books and small sculptures using my own photography, stitch, vintage treasures and gathered items. My aim is always to create beauty and depth as a personal response to an item that has been otherwise discarded. I love the storytelling element of my work..... I love words... I see tiny things... . I am very attracted to assemblage, texture and surface design, especially in nature and with textiles..

I love to.paint faces and illustrate scenes from my imagination, often including houses and little animals and birds.

I make "Creatures "..... small three dimensional sculptures made using vintage fabrics, hand made clothing, and recycled materials. They all have a story to tell, and help me navigate the paths of life.

I redesign thrifted and vintage garments into pieces of wearable art, and make unique jewellery from found items. I believe we can all make a difference to the environmental crisis by adapting clothing, mending existing clothes , and buying second hand clothing.

I paint images of odd Victorian boots and clothing which I love.

I've always loved music and write/perform songs with my husband as one half of the band "The Nightleaves" .

***Christmas 2025 Update***

I am really delighted to announce that my small sculpture "Square Peg, Round Hole" (shown above) has been chosen to exhibit at the Storiel Gallery in Bangor, North Wales LL57 1DT from 17th January until 21 March 2026, as part of their Open Art Exhibition.

See Joolz selected work exhibited at The Old School Gallery (Yr Hen Ysgol) Aberffraw, Isle of Anglesey LL63 during April 2025 Thursday to Sunday 11am til 4pm.

This exhibition sees Joolz' creature "Square Peg, Round Hole", on public display for the first time since it was chosen for the front cover of The Spectrum magazine.
